We are delighted that Tavar and Murphy have engaged questions that we raised in our recent ARCHIVES article1 concerning the compensation of tissue donors. Given recent public interest in this area,2 we believe that further discussion is needed, and we wish to clarify our thoughts regarding their key ethical question: Why should donors be excluded from profits associated with their unique and valuable tissue?
