It is encouraging that new programs, such as the one that Dr Speicher described, are emerging to increase the awareness of medication assistance programs to residents and other health professionals. Our center has enrolled thousands of patients into pharmaceutical manufacturers' assistance programs over the past 10 or more years. The goal of our article was to raise awareness about medication assistance programs without providing program-specific details, which vary widely among programs and change frequently. A careful reading of our article will reveal that we did not suggest that drug supplies were most commonly sent to patients. Rather, the article provides a listing of delivery methods used by these programs. We agree, as discussed in our article, that effective communication with physicians and other health care providers is essential. Thus, our article is a step to increase awareness of these programs to facilitate the communication process among medical professionals.
