Abstract

• Three major theories have been proposed to explain the pathogenesis of muscular dystrophies: abnormal microvascular supply of muscle, abnormal neuronal influence on muscle, or a genetic fault of the surface membrane. The cumulative evidence suggests that an abnormal muscle surface membrane is the most likely, but this has not been proven.
