We appreciate the interest shown by Trépanier and colleagues regarding our article and we want to reiterate that the purpose of the study was to determine if this specific procedure was associated with any immediate adverse consequences. No other objective was claimed or implied. Numerous reports have described the sequelae of pallidotomy using microelectrode recording, but data regarding the cognitive effect following macroelectrode or imaging-intensive pallidotomy have only recently emerged.
