The Archives of Neurology will be publishing in 2010-2011 a series of articles defining present accomplishments in implementing translational research in the major subspecialties of neurology. They will define the important basic neuroscientific advances that have lead to new therapies for the major neurological diseases in recent years. Conversely, these articles will cite where clinical observations have provided the means to develop new diagnostic tests and biomarkers for the major neurological diseases. With these examples, the articles will stress how the translational research process can be improved including shortening the time intervals required to make these scientific advances and where new funding opportunities might be found.
