The field of precision medicine has been conceived only recently in resource-rich countries, and the amount of enthusiasm shown by all stakeholders in this novel field is unparalleled to that for any other field in the past. While a tremendous amount of funding has been allocated to the field of precision medicine, low- to middle-income countries (LMICs) have not had the same resources to dedicate to developing this field. We highlight the importance of precision medicine for LMICs and discuss ways to overcome barriers to its implementation.
