4th ed, edited by David L. Epstein, MD, R. Rand Allingham, MD, and Joel S. Schuman, MD, 670 pp, with illus, ISBN 0-683-02808-1, Baltimore, Md, Williams & Wilkins, 1997.

Arch Ophthalmol. 1998;116(11):1552. doi:

The goal of this textbook is to provide practical clinical information about the management of all patients with glaucoma. It has been almost 10 years since the last edition and Dr Epstein has put considerable thought into updating its organization and content.

The text is divided into 11 major sections, containing 73 chapters. Beginning with "The Basics," the reader is presented with a practical course in the anatomy and physiology of the eye as it relates to glaucoma. Additionally, excellent sections on examination of the eye, including a chapter on imaging of the optic nerve head and nerve fiber layer, are presented in the first section.
