Dr Lee1 appropriately notes a critical and often underappreciated issue in all workforce planning analyses—how to integrate data about the quality of providers. In this case, as in almost all areas of health care, there is, sadly, no empirical data on which to base a preference between different providers in the allocation of care or on how providers can best work together. As noted in the editorial by Bass2 that accompanied Dr Lee's article, this is indeed a crucial task that faces all of us.
