We appreciate Chen et al's comments regarding our article.1 Their experience corroborates our conclusion that phacoemulsification surgery can be associated with a significant elevation in IOP in previously filtered eyes with hypotony. Chen et al's findings of continued hypotony in a higher percentage of eyes compared with our series may support our recommendations to leave viscoelastic in these eyes at case conclusion and to minimize perioperative use of anti-inflammatory medications.
