The second edition of Schepens' Retinal Detachment
and Allied Diseases is an encyclopedic compilation of the clinical
experience of 3 main authors. A few chapters were written by other contributing
authors. The limited authorship of this textbook resulted in a uniformity
of style and content generally not found in other multiauthored textbooks
concerning this subject.
The intended audience is the practicing vitreoretinal specialist, who
would best use this work as a reference textbook. However, this book could
also benefit resident physicians, and especially vitreoretinal fellows. These
physicians-in-training would best use this textbook by reading pertinent chapters
prior to entering the operating room.
