Results from AREDS provide evidence for a clinically and statistically significant benefit of the combination of high-dose zinc and antioxidant vitamins in reducing the risk of developing advanced AMD in persons at high risk. This conclusion is not the result of post hoc subgroup analyses. Further review of the clinical reasons for studying various AMD categories and the statistical reasons for the analyses presented may help clarify this misperception.
