Arch Ophthalmol. 2002;120(12):1777. doi:10.1001/archopht.120.12.1777

In the course of three years I have removed the lens fifty times in the cases of sixteen males and fourteen females whose ages lay between ten and twenty-seven years and whose myopia was from thirteen to twenty dioptries. Twenty cases were bilateral, ten unilateral. Changes in the fundus, except hemorrhages, formed no contra-indication; opacities of the vitreous, however, showed a change in the consistency of that tissue. Among these fifty cases twenty-three had an entirely normal course.
