edited by Neil A. Sher, MD, FACS, 218 pp, with illus, ISBN 30333-3, Baltimore, Md, Williams & Wilkins, 1997.
Dr Sher, in his textbook, Surgery for Hyperopia and Presbyopia, has brought together clinical experts and renowned research scientists from around the world to contribute 21 chapters on this subject. Throughout this work, the authors refer to the treatment of hyperopia and presbyopia as the "next frontier" of refractive surgery. Though the surgical treatment for myopia still lends itself to further refinements, I certainly agree with Dr Sher and his contributors that hyperopic and presbyopic corrective procedures are beginning to "take a center stage," making this textbook timely.
