3rd ed, edited by Carl D. Regillo, MD, FACS and William E. Benson, MD, FACS, 213 pp, with illus, $129.50, ISBN 0-7817-1646-2, Philadelphia, Pa, Lippincott-Raven Publishers, 1998.
The opportunity to review Retinal Detachment, Diagnosis and Management, Third Editionby Drs Carl Regillo and William Benson was a treat. I first read the second edition while a vitreoretinal fellow under Dr Benson and found it remarkably easy-to-read, capturing the clarity of thought with which Dr Benson teaches.
The third edition expands the scope of the previous edition while remaining focused, clear, and succinct. The organization of the text remains largely unchanged. The first chapters address the mechanism and pathophysiology of retinal detachment. A history of retinal detachment repair, fundus examination, and surgical techniques and complication chapters follow.
