Ronald E. Smith, MD, was elected to membership in the Johns Hopkins society of scholars. The Society was established in 1967 to honor distinguished former postdoctoral fellows of Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md, who have gained distinction in the fields of physical, biological, medical, social, or engineering sciences, or in the humanities, and for whom at least 5 years have elapsed since their last Hopkins affiliation. Dr Smith is currently professor and chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, Keck School of Medicine at University of Southern California and the Doheny Eye Institute. He is also the Warren Professor at University of Southern California and Medical Director of the Lions Doheny Eye Bank.
