Can You Learn Ethics?

Arch Ophthalmol. 2003;121(2):296-297. doi:10.1001/archopht.121.2.296-a

I enjoyed reading the articles on teaching ethics in the July issue of the ARCHIVES.1,2 Both Drs Day and Smith made outstanding points and counterpoints about the value of a formal ethics curriculum for ophthalmology students and residents. I believe that ethics can be taught in a residency program, but as is questioned by Dr Smith, Can it be learned? The basis of ethics begins to develop at an early age, long before graduate school. Can human behavior be modified in postgraduate training?
