We thank Mr Aref for his interest in our article.1 MrAref raises some questions regarding our results, which revealed no significantrelationship between CCT and IOP. We are pleased to clarify those questionsfor Mr Aref.

We agree with Mr Aref that ocular incisional surgery, trauma, or cornealdisease can alter CCT measurements. However, we would like to point out thatthe Barbados Eye Studies were population-based investigations, as opposedto patient-based studies, and the history of such procedures and conditionswas infrequent among our 1142 study participants. Therefore, our findingsand conclusions were not substantially altered by including or excluding thesmall number of such individuals.
