Penetrating Keratoplasty Surgery

Arch Ophthalmol. 2004;122(4):664. doi:10.1001/archopht.122.4.664-b

I congratulate Dr Busin1 on his excellentarticle about a new lamellar wound configuration for penetrating keratoplastysurgery. This keratoplasty procedure seems to reduce the period necessaryfor visual rehabilitation.

Combining a central penetrating part with a horizontal surface-to-surfacesurgical wound in the periphery of the cornea creates a much stronger wound. This type of wound might prevent the vertical displacement of the graft sometimesobserved in penetrating keratoplasty.
