We thank Dr Schachar for his interest in our article and for pointingout the subtle difference in the terminology of the techniques for treatingpresbyopia. It is obvious that both the scleral expansion plug and the scleralexpansion band procedures require inserting silicone material of differentdimensions or orientations into the sclera.1,2 Inthe scleral expansion band procedure, scleral belt loops are created for insertingthe bands. For instance, in the study on the effect of scleral expansion bandon intraocular pressure (IOP) by Rifkind et al,2 4-mmscleral belt loops were created at 4 oblique quadrants 3.5 mm posterior tothe limbus for inserting the 5.5-mm band segments.
