We read with interest the results of the cross-sectional Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes (ACCORD) eye substudy.1
Despite reports that indicate an association between thiazolidinedione (TZD) administration and peripheral, pulmonary, and macular edema (ME),2- 4 we were not surprised that the ACCORD Eye substudy found no association between TZD administration and ME. The study had a selection bias that strongly influenced the result.
