We read with interest the results of the cross-sectional Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes (ACCORD) eye substudy.1

Despite reports that indicate an association between thiazolidinedione (TZD) administration and peripheral, pulmonary, and macular edema (ME),24 we were not surprised that the ACCORD Eye substudy found no association between TZD administration and ME. The study had a selection bias that strongly influenced the result.
