Abstract

To the Editor:  —I have digested the Delegate's Report, Section on Ophthalmology, as reported in the December, 1961, issue of the Archives of Ophthalmology, and I am in full agreement. In the dissemination and discussion of this article with the local M.D.'s, one question arose which I was unable to answer authoritatively. I for one, right or wrong, will not acknowledge a referral by an optometrist. However, a local pediatrician wished to know whether it is ethical or unethical for him to answer or acknowledge a referral to him (eye problem) by an optometrist. My feeling is that any response, written or otherwise, is unethical.
