Abstract

This volume is a reprint of the author's classic work published originally in 1947. It describes the characteristics of the electrical responses of the retina and optic nerve, and includes much of the author's work with nonhuman material. The duplex nature of the retinal receptors is reviewed together with the properties of the photosensitive materials. Color vision is discussed from the conventional as well as the electrophysiological points of view.

In spite of the great achievements in the field of electrophysiology of the retina in the past 20 years and their omission from this reprint, this volume is a valuable reference book for those with a primary interest in this field.
