Bruckner has written a very good textbook of ophthalmology, intended for the general practitioner. Medical students and their instructors will also find it interesting. The approach is both clinical and practical, and the material is expressed concisely. The first chapters, on ocular emergencies and accidents, are particularly valuable. The format is excellent, and the outline in the margins permits rapid reference. One regrets the lack of colored photographs, but the schematic drawings are clear and helpful.
The text is in German, and so, its use in this country is somewhat limited
