Abstract

This symposium is of particular interest to ophthalmologists because, although directed primarily toward the corneal graft response, there are a number of contributors from basic disciplines who are concerned with overall physiopathological problems of tissue and organ transplantation.

The clinical ophthalmologist thus has a ready reference to material ordinarily not easily available to him. For example, the confusing changes in terminology (as allograft for homograft and xenograft for heterograft) are outlined.

This symposium offers a quick review of both basic principles and recent advances in tissue transplantation.
