Abstract

The central and peripheral visual fields of eight normals and six amblyopes were compared as regards spatial summation properties. Abnormal spatial summation in the area of the amblyopic scotoma was found. The hypothesis is advanced that this property of the scotoma represents a disorganization in the central receptive fields in the sense of their enlargement over the normal.
