The need for trained ophthalmic assistants is undoubted. How and where these individuals are to be obtained is highly debatable. For the nontrained technician, Drs. Stein and Slatt have produced a highly readable, well informed book which compactly contains a surprisingly large amount of pertinent material. Any office assistant could read this with profit.
