Abstract

This book is well presented and easy to read. The author's vast experience in this field is supplemented by an extensive review of the literature, appropriate case reports, and illustrations.

The variable clinical appearance and histologic and other eye findings associated with angioid streaks are given. The various clinical entities related to angioid streaks are discussed and include pseudoxanthoma elasticum, pseudo-pseudoxanthoma elasticum, Paget's disease of the bone, sickle cell disease, and other disorders of calcium-phosphorous metabolism.

A theory regarding the pathogenesis of the ocular lesions is presented.

This book gives a comprehensive view of the significance of angioid streaks and will help the reader to recognize and evaluate the various systemic disorders associated with this condition.
