Abstract

To the Editor.  —A significant error appears in the abstract of the article by Petruscak et al in the Archives (89:106, 1973). The statement follows: "The death rate related to general and local anesthesia was 0.69 per 1,000 and 0.35 per 1,000, respectively."The figures should be reversed, with the lower death rate related to general anesthesia, as stated later in the article. The results of this study are remarkable, and not entirely consistent with the authors' conclusion that "there appears to be little difference between the results of general and local anesthesia."
