The American Society of Ocularists has always had a symbiotic relationship with ophthalmic plastic surgeons. In fact, the annual meeting of the named Society has become a type of clinical laboratory conference where aspects of ophthalmic plastic surgery are discussed in light of the subsequent care rendered by the ocularists. These conferences have become a frequented and most fascinating event full of free discussions and topics of mutual interest. In the framework of such a symposium, selected papers are presented and discussed. Dr. Guibor and Mr. Gougelmann have eminently succeeded in putting the proceedings of the 1972 annual meeting of the American Society of Ocularists in print under the headings indicated in the title. The general pattern of the presentation is based on definition of certain major topics followed by case presentations, and elaborated on by both ophthalmologists and ocularists.
