Abstract

Several years ago, we reviewed the report of the First Biennial Cataract Surgical Congress in this section. Although the review was in "the lighter vein," it acknowledged the potential of the new form of colloquium in imparting the latest information and in providing an open forum for personal experiences.

With the Second and Third Biennial Congresses now a matter of history, the format of these gatherings has been justified by their popularity and fresh approach. The hard-working originator and organizer of all three congresses, Robert C. Welsh, has delegated the editorial duties for the Third Congress to Jared Emery and David Paton, two able clinicians and, as this volume shows, capable editors. With the help of an experienced medical publisher, these three men have produced a volume that retains the flavor of the earlier two in a more conventional and meticulous format.
