Abstract

Henry F. Allen (Figure) immediately followed Dave Cogan as Chief Editor of the Archives. He has been in charge of the Editorial Board for ten years, and according to general AMA policy, he must now relinquish the reins.

Under his stewardship, the Archives has grown and developed considerably. The circulation has surpassed 16,000, and the Archives is now the most widely read ophthalmic journal in the world. Henry has rejuvenated the Editorial Board and assembled a number of excellent young ophthalmologists as his co-workers. He has judiciously selected his associate editors who have had the arduous task to prepare their annual reviews. He has initiated new departments and changed old ones. His wide background in the humanities, his deep knowledge of the classics, and his astute awareness of progress in ophthalmic sciences have made him an ideal editor.
