This volume is based on nearly 100 papers presented at a Symposium on Orbital Disorders held in Amsterdam in 1973. Topics are grouped into anatomy and pathology, diagnostic techniques, and therapeutic measures.
There is a wide variation in the detail of the articles, with many papers describing surgical techniques containing no illustrations or diagrams. Some of the most interesting subjects, such as several articles discussing orbital lesions in children, are printed only as abstracts. Although many papers described methods of orbital diagnosis, computerized tomographic scanning of the orbit is not mentioned, since the instruments used to perform this study were not commercially available until after the symposium was held.
Orbital trauma and surgery were the subjects of many papers. Some of these were of particular interest because of the different views toward orbital surgery that were expressed by authors from the many countries represented at the symposium.
