Abstract

MESA.–The creation of a national nonprofit corporation designed to meet the demands of eye patients for a funded payment plan for prepaid medical eye services was announced by Medical Eye Services of America, Inc (MESA).

MESA, a Denver-based organization, will represent ophthalmologists and opticians in sponsoring national programs for contractually funded (prepaid) eye services with union management trust funds, employers, insurers, administrative agencies, employee benefit trusts, and other groups.

These new programs are designed to provide medical eye services and refractive services as a fringe benefit such as the one recently granted to the United Auto Workers by the auto industry. MESA is not an insurer or a health maintenance organization. MESA-sponsored programs will cover ophthalmological and dispensing services.
