The fact that this book is in its 19th edition speaks for its popularity in German-speaking countries. Directed to the medical student, it contains an excellent practical introduction to ophthalmology. The illustrations are most informative and well chosen.
Each chapter has a summary in which the most important factors are outlined and reemphasized The most essential or core information is printed against a blue background so that it becomes most conspicuous and can be read immediately.
At the end of the book we find short summaries and reviews. Finally, there is a chapter with multiple-choice questions so that the student can find out how much he has learned or needs to know. Again, the questions are divided into those that are core questions, those that reflect the main bulk of ophthalmic information, and those that are less frequently encountered in the daily practice. The answers are given on separate sheets.
