Abstract

This issue contains as lead article an excellent review (in French) by Prof J. Nordmann of Strasbourg on the aging of the human lens and the senile cataract. This article summarizes and evaluates critically the most important biochemical findings of the last 20 years. It is a masterpiece of precise and concise reporting done by the doyen of lens research.

The second article, also in French, comes from the clinic in Lausanne, Switzerland, and deals with a review on the persistence and hyperplasia of the primary vitreous.

The third article, in English, by G. K. von Noorden deals with mechanisms of amblyopia. It summarizes in an excellent manner the author's numerous clinical and experimental studies on amblyopia, emphasizing the difference between vision depravation and abnormal binocular interaction amblyopias.
