This book essentially presents the proceedings of a meeting held in 1980 in Sun Valley, Idaho, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Wilmer Retinal Vascular Center and to honor its founder, Dr Arnall Patz. There is an impressive array of contributors, both with and without direct association with the Wilmer Institute. The text is divided into seven major sections, including retinal vascular disorders; diabetic retinopathy; dystrophies, drug toxicity, and inflammation; retinitis pigmentosa; maculopathies; photocoagulation; and ocular tumors.

While the chapters mainly concern the diagnosis and management of medical retinal problems, there are chapters on vitrectomy, basic science studies on neovascularization and pigment epithelial culture, and the multicenter collaborative clinical trials to which the Wilmer staff have so greatly contributed. Most of the chapters are short, to the point, and on topics currently of particular interest. Provocative discussions by the participants follow each chapter.
