Abstract

To the Editor.  —This letter is in response to Dr Richard Anderson's1 editorial on eyelid tattooing in the October 1985 issue of the Archives. You said it, Richard! It's only conjectural, but I believe it unlikely that de Schweinitz, Verhoeff, or Adler would have performed eyelid tattooing. Why do commercial ophthalmologists (remember how we once smugly smiled when "ethical optometrists" used to criticize "commercial optometrists") have this great need to emblazon the skin with graffiti? Why can't they restrict this need to bathroom walls as the rest of us do?
