Abstract

New Member Elected to National Society to Prevent Blindness.  —Axel C. Hansen, MD, was elected to the board of directors of the National Society to Prevent Blindness at its recent annual meeting in Williamsburg, Va. Dr Hansen is Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of Ophthalmology at Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tenn.

Herbert E. Kaufman Receives Kiewiet De Jonge Award.  —Herbert E. Kaufman, MD, director of the LSU Eye Center and Boyd Professor of Ophthalmology and Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Louisiana State University, New Orleans, is the first non-European to receive the Kiewiet De Jonge Award in recognition of original scientific work in the field of intraocular implantation surgery. Dr Kaufman was recognized for improving surgical techniques of intraocular lens implantation during cataract surgery. The presentation of the award, given by the European Intraocular Implantlens Council and named after the council's founder, took place in October 1985 at the Festival du Film
