To the Editor.  —I write this letter in response to the article by Ms Foreman in the March 1989 issue of the Archives concerning Medicare payment for assistants at cataract surgery.1 It is important to point out that these legal challenges on behalf of American ophthalmology have always been and are still equally shared by the California Association of Ophthalmology and the New York Ophthalmological Society. Both societies have shared equally in the instigation of the lawsuit and its financial burden. After reading this article, one is left with the impression that this was solely the work of the New York Ophthalmological Society. Otherwise, I agree with Ms Foreman's entire article, and we all hope for a positive outcome.
