Abstract

In Reply.  —We welcome the opportunity to respond to Dr Hessburg's letter concerning our article. It is readily apparent on looking at the same data that we came to different conclusions from those of Dr Hessburg.Dr Hessburg chides us for referring to closed-loop lenses as a class. While we specifically discussed the Pharmacia Intermedics model 024 lens, our discussion does indeed relate it to other lenses in its class. Such a discussion appears appropriate, as indeed all such lenses in this class have been withdrawn from the market. The Hessburg lens was among the lenses discussed in our original reference 1. We did not state that it was among the lenses discussed in our original reference 2.We do not assume that PBK risk factors with iris-supported and AC-IOLs are identical. We indicated in our "Materials and Methods" section that data we collected were obtained according to the suggestions
