Abstract

Burton Kushner, MD, Has Been Named the John W. and Helen Doolittle Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, Madison. Dr Kushner is the editor of the Journal of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmologyand Strabismus. He is serving his 23rd year on the university's faculty.

The American Board of Ophthalmology reports that the total number of diplomates certified after the October 1995 oral examinations in St Louis, Mo, and the May 1996 oral examinations in San Francisco, Calif, was 525 (251 in St Louis and 274 in San Francisco). One hundred thirty-three candidates failed in 1 or 2 disciplines and must repeat just those subjects. Twenty-five failed 3 or more disciplines and must repeat all 6 subjects. The 1996 written qualifying examination (WQE) was held on April 19 at 4 sites. Of the 872 candidates registered for the WQE, 787 took the examination, 272 failed
