Visual impairment is an unusual complication of mumps and may be secondary to pathological conditions In several places along the optic pathway. Cortical blindness, however, is an extremely rare complication. A 25-year-old woman suddenly developed meningitis, cortical blindness, and cerebellar ataxia during an acute episode of parotitis associated with rise in mumps neutralizing antibodies. The patient recovered completely with only supportive care in six days.
