Abstract

A case of congenital orbital teratoma with marked unilateral proptosis was noted at birth. Careful and extensive medical investigation showed the tumor to be confined to the orbit. Biopsy and decompression of the lesion and subsequent percutaneous aspiration of the cyst allowed postponement of the tumor resection until the child was better able to withstand excision of the benign tumor. The tumor was removed through a Krönlein-Berke exposure, leaving the globe and optic nerve in place. The cosmetic results obtained were excellent during the short follow-up period.
