Abstract

Orbital cellulitis due to Haemophilus influenzae has not been reported, to our knowledge, in the ophthalmic literature. The clinical and laboratory features of orbital cellulitis due to H influenzae are presented and contrasted with the more common findings of orbital cellulitis due to staphylococcal infections. Hemophilus influenzae-caused orbital cellulitis usually affects children under 36 months of age and has characteristic clinical and laboratory features. Recognition of this clinical entity and prompt antimicrobial therapy are essential in order to treat this condition successfully.
