IN AN ERA of heightened concern for both the cost and effectiveness of medical care, the impact of new technology on the operating room setting must be carefully evaluated. A balanced consideration of the beneficial and detrimental effects of each new technology is critical for defining its appropriate role. Casiano has presented an accurate, unbiased review describing the use of image-guidance systems for sinus surgery. However, his review highlights the lack of evidence-based studies in this field that are essential for the proper assessment of such rapidly evolving technology.
