The seventh volume of the yearbook of Progress in Maxillofacial Surgery contains the "extract" of 37 papers and discussions delivered at the tenth meeting of the German Maxillofacial Society.
The Cosmetic Aspects of Facial Plastic Surgery are the main topic of this volume while the functional considerations receive less attention. The unusual cooperative effort of facial plastic surgeons, otorhinolaryngologists, and oral surgeons, succeeded in 248 pages full of advice on cosmetic and esthetic aspects of facial plastic surgery. The chapters concerned with the correction of malformations of the maxilla and the mandible are outstanding. An added bonus are the short summaries in English, French, and Spanish. These combined with an abundant number of preoperative and postoperative illustrations, diagrams, and roentgenograms almost eliminate the need for translation of the German text. The circle of readers should include otolaryngologists who care for patients with rare and interesting congenital and posttraumatic maxillofacial disorders
