Abstract

An experimental study to surgically create tracheo-laryngomalacia proved that immediate repair of the defect with transposition of laryngeal cartilage was feasible and successful. By total excision of the upper three to four tracheal rings and the major portions of the thyroid laminae, tracheo-laryngomalacia was produced with ensuing stridor and respiratory distress. The affected segments were stabilized with thyroperichondrial pedicle flaps. Six of the 12 puppies survived and were killed at approximately six months after operation.
