Abstract

Biopsies from the labyrinthine capsule of patients with otosclerosis confirm that otosclerosis is an enzymatic disease whose destructive phase might be explained by the action of the hydrolases found in the lysosomes. The intracellular as well as extracellular localization of the acid phosphatases agrees with our electron microscopic findings of the typical morphological features of the otosclerotic focus.
