Abstract

The San Francisco, Calif, Otology Update: 1989.—The San Francisco, Calif, Otology Update: 1989, will be held from November 2 through 4, 1989. This course is designed as a review of the "state of the art" of comtemporary otology, including recent advances in the basic and clinical sciences. The format consists of lectures followed by questions from the audience and discussion. The faculty has been drawn largely from the Northern California otologic and neurotologic community, with representation from several campuses of the University of California system, Stanford (Calif) University, and the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Topics to be discussed include integration of basic sciences in clinical otology, physiological acoustics, relationship of inner ear structure to function, otologic manifestations of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, cholesteatoma, use of the laser in cholesteatoma surgery, laser applications in otology and neurology, infectious ear disease, retrocochlear pathology, and pediatric otology.
