Greenfield Sluder and Subtotal Tonsillectomy

Arch Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2005;131(3):281. doi:10.1001/archotol.131.3.281

I read with interest the recent article by Chan et al1 on intracapsular tonsillectomy using low-temperature plasma excision. In the introduction to the article, the authors state that “subtotal tonsillectomy is an old technique that was popularized by Greenfield Sluder, MD, in 1920.” I believe that if Sluder were alive today to comment, he would strongly disagree with that statement.
